Goals

This is a One Name Study to collect together in one place everything about one surname and the variants of that name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join our study to help make it a valuable reference point for people studying lines that cross or intersect.

History

The first ancestor in this line who came to New France was not named Liard but Guyard, he was Jean Guyard. He arrived in the colony around 1739 and married there. The name got written variously Guyard, Guyart, Guiard, Guillard, Guilliard for his descendants. The name Liard first shows up in marriages of some of his grandchildren, with baptisms of his great-grandchildren showing it more and more.

The next generation saw only 2 sons to carry on the name: Jean Baptiste Guyard and Charles Guyard, they were in fact the only children known to live to marry.
